25

you know, for a while i thought being 25 was awful -- stuck in the middle between those youthful 20s and the 30s that once seemed much older than they are. and then this weekend, it dawned on me that 25 is actually the pefect age. you're old enough to know better but young enough to get away with it anyway. so three cheers to 25. i'll miss you when i'm 26...which is december 17th so get shopping!

i woke up to a dark room this morning. it was cloudy and cool and rainy and perfect outside. the only thing that could have been better: if it were saturday instead of thursday so i could have wallowed in the cozy comfort just a little bit longer.

oh boredom...

the above picture is jayna suzanne perry, aka: veej

it all started innocently enough. veej and i were IM-ing and i decided to be funny and send her a picture of us from christmas just in case she had forgotten what i look like -- you know, because i hadn't seen her in a whole day. one thing led to another and there we were, passing image file after image file back and forth over a direct connection. it was a magnificent trip down memory lane. i heart technology. it rocks my face off!

and no, there really is no point to this post other than showing off jayna (she's single, fellas!!) and relaying one of the many ridiculous activities i willfully participated in.

do-what?

it's no secret that i'm a doula, but i get a lot of questions about what exactly that entails. so here is a little info that hopefully will help. being a doula means that i provide emotional, informational, and physical support for my clients during labor and delivery. but it also means that i begin work long before the baby comes. we make birth plans, discuss nutrition and exercise, and more! it takes long hours, but it's worth every minute of work when that beautiful baby is born. when a woman goes into labor, she gives me a call and i meet her either at her home or the hospital, depending on what her plan is. we practice breathing, relaxation, visualization, and a number of comfort measures. comfort measures include massage, positioning, music, lighting -- basically anything that will make Mom more comfortable. i do this work for my clients at the agency, but i can also do this as a business. doulas in the okc metro area can make upward of $250-500 per birth! i also do some volunteer doula work for people referred by the children first program. lots of opportunities! it truly is an amazing experience to witness such a miraculous event -- icky stuff and all. i've assisted at four births so far and can't wait for my fifth, which should actually be this week for wes and kayla! if you want more info about being a doula, you can check out DONA and DACO. let me know if you're interested in getting information about the upcoming doula training workshop that will be held in oklahoma city on october 8, 9, and 10!

california dreamin'

I took an online quiz today. It was aimed at determining my Great American Getaway spot. Since I've felt like I need one for a while, I decided to see what the all-knowing folks at Tickle had in store for me. I was thrilled to learn that Los Angeles is my locale! Yay! Take the quiz yourself. It's a great little time-killer. And who knows -- maybe this will give us the incentive to take a much needed, well-deserved vacation! Here are my results...

Los Angeles

Are you ready for your close up? With your taste for the finer things and love of the spotlight, we're betting you are. That's why California's action-packed, sun-kissed, and star-studded entertainment capital is calling your name.

Eclectic shops and clubs, relaxing days on the beach, scoping celebrities while sipping lattes on Rodeo Drive or fancier drinks on the Sunset Strip — these alone are worth the trip. And we haven't even talked about the weather! With your cosmopolitan soul, your biggest challenge will be to figure out what to do first. So...roll it! Lights, camera, action!

pretty in pink

sarah jessica parker, looking phenomenal as always, at a fundraising event for NYC public schools. i love that SJP has remained a prominent fashion figure despite losing the fabulous wardrobe people at SATC. kudos to her! and even more kudos for using her celebrity status to raise money for education. i wish more stars felt the call to help worthy causes.

Family Affair

for those of you who believe i miraculously hatched from an egg with no parents to be found, i would like to present to you my family. this was at jr and ashley's wedding. i'm not sure what is up with the photographer having me block my uncle and aunt, but cool.... the link has expired now, but once upon a time, you could've viewed the entire 198-picture gallery.

a day late and a dollar short

i meant to start my blog yesterday. i thought it would be nice to kick off something new on the first day of the month. a fresh start. a new beginning. but let's face it. this is me. i'm late for things sometimes. i procrastinate. i admit it!

stay tuned for possibly interesting topics including shopping, music, art, fashion, hair and makeup, pop culture, random musings, and more. i hope you enjoy the offerings. after all...variety is the spice of life.
